Director of Cultivation
Exempt/Full-time (4 5 + weekly hours)
Reports to: President
Oversight: The Verdes Foundation Cultivation Facilities

Job Summary:
The Director of Cultivation is a critical member of the Verdes Leadership team. This position is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the cultivation and harvesting of all cannabis plants at Verdes. The Director of Cultivation must demonstrate a keen understanding of how the overall company (and vertically integrated manufacturing) operates and make strategic decisions and recommendations accordingly. It is imperative for the Director of Cultivation demonstrate a clear sense of ownership and pride around all aspects of agricultural operations. With the recreational market here, Verdes needs to produce 2x-3x more material to meet consumer demand. Therefore, it is essential that the Director of Cultivation ensures that Verdes uses the most efficient, effective, and economically viable methods to grow our plants.

Every day they will be focused on:
  • Delivering strong, optimized financials (top and bottom line)
  • Ensures that Verdes uses the most efficient, effective, and economically viable methods to grow our plants
  • Ownership, implementation, and maintenance of Cultivation department’s policies and procedures:? corporate, safety, security, managerial, and operational.
  • Implement a Quality Management System aligned with lean manufacturing, GMP, and GAP standards.
  • Maintain compliance with DoH, RLD, OSHA, EPA policies and standards.
Responsibilities /Essential Functions :
  • Product Availability
  • Oversight of day-to-day operations in cultivation and delivery of material to be processed in a manner that meets demand
  • Ensuring that yields and cannabinoid potencies meet targets
  • Lead process improvement
  • Maximize production capacity for all cultivation facilities
  • Monthly and Quarterly production goals
  • Strong Project Management capabilities that encompass plants and staff

High Functioning Staff
  • Oversight of a team consisting of a Horticulture Engineer, a Harvest Manager, two Head Growers, and 15 indirect reports
  • Development of strong leaders that demonstrate the proper level of ownership and pride in their work
  • Responsible for ensuring direct reports deliver on their goals
  • Ensure that the entire cultivation staff has a strong sense of engagement and passion for the cannabis industry, Verdes, and our clients.
  • Build and carry out a succession plan for hiring, training and ongoing development and engagement of all staff
  • Utilize retention rates, promotions and staff performance, employee satisfaction, financial goals, and customer feedback as metrics for staff function/development

Strong Financial Controls
  • Deliver top and bottom-line financial goals as set forth by ownership
  • Identify opportunities to optimize Verdes’ financial situation
  • Evaluate cultivation processes
  • Provide thought leadership in relation to an innovation plan
  • Provide recommendations regarding efficiency to include automation and manpower

Building the Verdes Brand
  • Work closely with the Marketing Team to build a strong, competitively insulated brand
  • Ensure flawless execution of critical brand building initiatives through product availability, strain selection, and timing of harvests.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Excellent managerial and supervisory skills
  • Extensive knowledge of operations and production management
  • Ability to interpret financial data as needed to set production goals
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills: active listening, tact & diplomacy, verbal, and written
  • Emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-management, relationship management, social awareness
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, “Seed-to-Sale” tracking systems and/or similar software
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or preferred or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of seven years of managerial and supervisory experience
  • Minimum of five years of operations and production management
  • Minimum of five years of financial responsibility including departmental budgets, data analysis, forecasting, and production goals
Physical and Emotional Requirements:
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and transition from sitting to standing several times per day
  • Must be able to bend/stoop/climb/reach
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs, unassisted
  • Must be able to present complex information to groups of people
  • Must be able to be physically present in all production areas and administrative office
  • Must be able to tolerate a reasonable amount of work stress
Compensation/Hours:
Compensation - DOE; 40+ hours/wk., required Mon – Fri, some weekends & holidays, 8:00am to 5:00pm
  • $1000 Professional Development Reimbursement
