Reporting to the Managing Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations, the Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations will serve as a relationship manager and liaison for foundation partners, corporate partnerships, and public funding. This past year, we worked with approximately 70 institutions who collectively donated close to $5.6 million to Teach For America New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut regions - school partnerships would account for an additional $2.1 million in funding. We are seeking to grow this partnership base, while providing high level stewardship to our current partners. The successful candidate is someone who: believes deeply in TFA’s vision, is invested in the unique impact that successful donor partnerships have on our work, is a strong communicator and relationship builder, and is exceptionally well-organized and detail-oriented. The Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations will be a skilled fundraiser with experience in reporting, grants management, prospect research, and corporate engagement.

THE PERSON

Grants, Portfolio, and Contract Management (25%)

  • Oversee all proposal development, submission, and donor solicitations for corporate, foundation, and public funding within your portfolio of funders and prospects; collaborate with others to meet deadlines
  • Support the invoicing and cash collection process for our portfolio of partner schools across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut as needed

Developing Compelling Cases of Support (30%)

  • Working in partnership with the MD, Corporate and Foundation Relations, support in the management of the process to develop and refine compelling cases for support for institutional funders that are aligned with New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut regional vision, programming, and impact goals supported by program data and landscape analysis
  • Develop pitch decks, proposals, one-pagers, talking points, and other collateral materials for institutional funding in collaboration with the MD, Corporate and Foundation Relations and other program staff

Identification, Cultivation, and Stewardship of Institutional Funding Partners (35%)

  • Manage and develop strategies to expand our pipeline of corporate, foundation, and government funders to grow our base of supporters
  • Manage all institutional relationships within your portfolio and work to deepen relationships with funders through cultivation and stewardship with a goal toward future solicitations
  • Work to identify and secure new funding for the Tri-State Hub
  • In collaboration with the MD, Corporate and Foundation Relations, create and implement a corporate engagement strategy in support of our holistic donor engagement plan

Leading Across the Organization (10%)

  • Participate in regional and organization-wide activities and events that are either required of or open to all staff, such as selection, confirmation, strategic planning, and summits
  • Other projects as assigned by manager

THE MUST HAVES

Prior Experience

  • 6-8 years of work experience with increased responsibility; previous work in development and grants management experience required
  • Experience in project management, including collaborating with and influencing other stakeholders, to meet outcomes and deadlines
  • Experience in the K-12 education sector, or public school systems not required but a plus
  • Knowledge of leading education, social justice, and equity-minded grantmakers a plus
  • Knowledge of Tri-State area philanthropic landscape a plus
  • Track record of achieving ambitions goals

Work Demands

  • Ability to work some evenings, weekends, and early mornings
  • Willingness to travel to and from in-person donor meetings as well as key events/gatherings throughout New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut

Skills

  • Exceptional writer and effective communicator, with ability to tailor approach to different constituency groups
  • Exceptional relationship management skills, and strong belief in a people-focused approach to donor management
  • Strong project management skills and an ability to handle multiple projects with competing priorities to achieve ambitious goals
  • Outstanding judgment, discretion, ethical standards and commitment to responsible stewardship
  • Agility to navigate a large and complex national organization
  • Enthusiasm for working with diverse communities and stakeholders
  • Deep commitment to Teach For America's mission and core values

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required

THE TEAM

Since 1990, Teach For America has found, developed, and supported a diverse network of leaders who expand opportunity for children. Our network continues to work in classrooms, schools, and a variety of other sectors that shape the broader systems in which schools operate. The 13 members of the Tri-State Development team raise the funds necessary to support this critical work in TFA's Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York regions, with a fundraising goal of $17 million in fiscal year 2022. Together with hundreds of school and community partners across the Tri-State area and thousands of supporters, TFA corps members and alumni are working to ensure that every child has the opportunity to receive an excellent education.
