To assist with the acquisition of employment through job development efforts; and facilitate the training, supervision and support of students on the job. To assist the Special Education Teacher in the implementation of goals and objectives in individualized programs for students.


This position reports to Program Coordinator/designee.

  • BA degree preferred in a related field (Education, Psychology, Special Education, Human Development, Rehabilitation)
  • A minimum of three years of work experience working with children having a disability and/or emotional disturbance.
  • This person must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability or potential to develop collaborative community relationships required.
  • Must have current MD driver’s license and acceptable driving record.


A. Job Development:

  • Make contacts through phone calls and personal interviews with community businesses to identify jobs for students involved in the school to work program.
  • Networks with families and friends to assist with job development leads.
  • Accompanies students on job interviews as appropriate.
  • Assists with the completion of pre-employment tasks, such as applications, job analyses, acquisitions of I-9 information, and securing transportation.
  • Assures completion of post-employment activities (i.e., thorough job analyses, time studies, establishing procedures for tracking worker performance, and site notebook set-up).
  • Participates with Supported Employment Program interdisciplinary team members, including consumers and parents, in determining appropriate job matches between consumers and available jobs.
  • Maintains documentation of job development, job placement and other related activities.

B. Programmatic:

  • Provides and/or facilitates direct training to students until individual is independent on tasks. Assures overall adjustment to work setting.
  • Ensures student performance is monitored and meets employer requirements and specifications for quantity and quality. Provides follow along support as necessary to assist students with the maintenance of employment.
  • Facilitates the formation and development of social integration opportunities between students and co-workers and employers.
  • Serves as a liaison and advocate for students between employers, co-workers and families/residential service providers.
  • As directed by the team, provides/facilitates travel training for students and monitors to and from work.
  • Emphasizes the student's acquisition of a position work ethic.
  • Is knowledgeable about the life skills curriculum and can effectively teach it.
  • Assists teachers in effecting the leisure education and physical education curriculums.
  • Assist the Special Education teacher in implementing the daily lesson plans.

C. Administrative:

  • Facilitates and/or collects, documents and monitors data on individual program plan goals and objectives. Also, facilitates implementation, documentation, and monitoring of data on behavioral programs.
  • Ensures maintenance of personnel files for each student. Provides proposed goals/objectives for annual individual program plans and input for behavior management programs.
  • Completes all administrative reporting requirements (i.e. monthly progress reports, cumulative wage reports, behavioral program data, etc.)
  • Serves as member of school to work interdisciplinary team.

D. Other:

  • Participates in workshops, conferences, academic courses and other professional development activities related to the position.
  • Successful completion of the Pre-service Training Program
  • Successful completion and demonstrated competency with the prescribed behavior management program.

E. Performs all other duties as assigned.
