The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. Staff members engage volunteers through effective and timely communications, facilitating meaningful opportunities, and continually seeking and providing feedback for reciprocal growth and learning.

The AVP, Healthcare Access leads a team to implement solutions and remove barriers to healthcare access for individuals living with MS. This position is responsible for ensuring that people living with MS have access to high-quality healthcare including providers who are knowledgeable about MS, engaged with the National MS Society, and connect their patients to Society information, resources and support. This position reports to the VP, Healthcare Access.


Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

MS Knowledge and Content (25%)

  • Lead the development and implementation of content for programs and resources related to high quality healthcare for people affected by MS
  • Partner with colleagues across the organization to bring the healthcare and clinical perspective to their work
  • As a subject matter expert, facilitate and/or present education sessions as needed
  • Oversee the development, review and updates to Society resources on the website, brochures, and other sources
  • Partner with marketing colleagues to develop communication plans on new resources, content or other related information

Relationships (25%)

  • Partner with VP, Healthcare Access and EVP, Advocacy and Healthcare Access to prioritize healthcare relationships
  • Engage with international MS Societies and other MS organizations to learn and collaborate on healthcare programs
  • Engage with pharmaceutical companies, insurers, specialty pharmacies and other companies in the healthcare system on issues relevant for people with MS
  • Initiate and cultivate relationships with other like organizations on issues related to affordable, quality healthcare
  • Relationship strategist and lead with Consortium of MS Centers
  • Partner with development team to secure funding from corporate and individual donors

MS Professional Workforce (25%)

  • Provide leadership and direction to workforce programs including existing clinical fellowships, medical student mentorships, and lead the development of future workforce programs.
  • Ensure diversity, cultural competency training and other initiatives to serve populations of color are integrated into programs
  • Provide leadership and direction to healthcare provider education programs like Project ECHO, webinars and more
  • Provide leadership to development, review and updates to content resources for healthcare professionals

Leadership (15%)

  • Staff, lead and support work teams to move priority work forward
  • Support the work of National Medical Advisory Committee
  • Serve on Advocacy and Healthcare Access leadership team
  • Serve as a Society spokesperson with media on MS and healthcare issues affecting people with MS.

Staff Supervision (10%)

  • Responsible for the hiring, onboarding, and continued development of direct reports
  • Conduct regular check-ins to monitor progress, provide feedback, and offer guidance and support where needed to ensure staff is fully supported in their role
  • Ensures staff have the tools, knowledge, and resources necessary to perform job duties effectively as well as opportunities for professional development
  • Coach and collaborate on goal-setting and professional development plans and conduct formal and informal performance conversations
  • Hold staff accountable to the cultural values of the organization and ensure they follow Society operating principles

Qualifications

Estimated hiring range for this role is $95,000 - $120,000 based on our average compensation schedule of Denver, CO. Final offers will be based on candidate geographic location and consider career experience and may vary from this range due to these and other factors.

Minimum Education/Experience/Competencies:
  • Bachelor's Degree with 7 years of related experience with demonstrated progressive levels of responsibility
  • Knowledge of MS and issues related to living with MS or a related chronic neurological disease preferred.
  • Strong relationship building and communication skills with the ability to build trust and motivate staff and volunteers to perform at their best to achieve strategic business outputs
  • Ability to think through problems, make inclusive decisions, and lead others through complex situations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare organization and delivery.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a range of audiences including constituents, leadership volunteers, healthcare professionals and media.
  • Strong relationship building and communication skills with the ability to build trust and motivate staff and volunteers to perform at their best in order to achieve strategic business outputs
  • Ability to think through problems, make inclusive decisions, and lead others through complex situations
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, cultural values, and expectations of the National MS Society
  • Knowledgeable of HR Management Fundamentals specifically employment law
