This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Lifestyle Medicine Coordinator, working as part of the Wellness Center team within Community Integrated Health and Lifestyle Medicine Department, will deliver professional customer service, and relationship building skills to create a welcoming environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in providing excellent service; attracting and retaining great volunteers and staff, assist in developing innovative lifestyle medicine programs and services for all, in and outside of the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Create a vibrant cause-centered culture for YMCA members and participants focused on key areas of: Fitness, Nutrition & Wellbeing, Effective & Outcome Driven Lifestyle Medicine Programming, Employee and Volunteer Career Support and Development.
  • Facilitate the organization, management and operation of quality lifestyle medicine programs, including fitness classes, member orientations, personal training, and other programs for adults, teens, children, seniors and special populations that drive growth in membership and program participation.
  • Oversee group fitness classes and related staff while providing assistance and leadership to the staff of corporate wellness and fee-based programs, as well as Community Integrated Health programs.
  • Recruit, hire, train and assist with evaluation of staff.
  • Assist in development of association fitness budget, to meet department revenue goals.
  • Assist in the development & growth of all fitness programs, including new and innovative programming.
  • Work symbiotically with the Member Experience team to develop, implement, and manage operating plans to promote program and membership growth by creating a cohesive member experience.
  • Ensures careful assimilation of new members into YMCA classes, programs, and equipment to grow connections within the YMCA.
  • Ensure safety, cleanliness and maintenance of facilities, grounds and equipment to minimize risk to members, participants and the Association.
  • Follow and enforce all YMCA procedures and policies, including: personnel guidelines, safety guidelines, facility access procedures and membership policies. Carry out emergency plans as necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and safe YMCA. Take initiative to clean up/repair areas.
  • Be dressed in appropriate attire and wear nametag at all times.
  • Attend and remain current on all mandatory trainings and staff meetings.
  • Provides direction to assigned staff in the performance of their duties, establishing work priorities in achieving strategic goals.
  • Ensure a culture of inclusion that builds and celebrates diversity within the Y and our community.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use of hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reaches with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and hear.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds and regularly lift and or move 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related field, from an accredited college or university, or 4 years of experience as a fitness specialist, personal trainer, group exercise instructor or related field; 1-2 years in management or supervisory roles.
  • Current nationally recognized certification (such as but not limited to: AFAA, ACSM, ACE) and experience leading group exercise classes, performing exercise assessments, providing exercise recommendations, conducting personal and small group trainings.
  • High level of organization demonstrating sound judgment, initiative and independent thinking
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook and database management
  • YMCA Team Leader certification, or ability to obtain within 2 years of hire date.
  • Passion for health and wellness
  • Strong customer service, problem solving and communication skills with the ability to relate will to staff, volunteers, members and the public
  • Knowledge of facility and equipment management.
