The Pennington Biomedical Research Foundation is a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to support the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a global leader in research on nutrition and chronic diseases including obesity, diabetes, cancer, and dementia, among others. The discoveries made by Pennington scientists have changed the way America eats, exercises, and ages for over 30 years. The Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a campus of Louisiana State University, Louisiana’s flagship public university. As one of the top nutrition research centers in the country, Pennington’s discoveries have paved the way to new treatments and cures for chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease. The Senior Director of Development will be responsible for creating PBRF’s high-level fundraising strategy and managing implementation of all of PBRF’s fundraising efforts. The Senior Director of Development will work closely with the President/CEO and Board of Directors in all development and fundraising endeavors. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and motivated individual to play a key role in expanding PRBF’s reach nationally and globally. Job responsibilities include:
Develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy reflective of national and international giving trends
Lead and manage implementation of the fundraising strategy
Create and grow a major gifts program focused on identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of philanthropic support
Build strong relationships with a diverse base of 50-100 current and prospective donors
Work in close coordination with the President/CEO and the Board of Directors
Oversee a high-quality donor experience through correspondence, donor engagement, professional proposals, mailings, in-person meetings, and acknowledgments
Develop, cultivate, and nurture strong relationships with PBRC Faculty
Perform other duties as required
Qualifications:
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to speak and write effectively and persuasively
Must be able to draft compelling proposals and solicitation letters
Must be a self-starter and demonstrate confidence to design a comprehensive fundraising strategy, as well initiate donor visits and calls
Positive and optimistic attitude
Proven track record securing five and six figure gifts while creating and maintaining meaningful relationships with donors
Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree preferred; CFRE certification desired
Excellent comprehension of current fundraising best practices in terms of protocol, procedures, and data management
Minimum of 5 years experience in professional fundraising, preferably with a science, health, or research nonprofit
Ability to work independently and part of a team
Ability to manage time well when facing competing priorities
Proven ability to work effectively and build strong working relationships with a diverse group of external and internal stakeholders
High degree of integrity, initiative, and resourcefulness
Familiarity with national and international giving trends
Willingness to travel desired
Previous experience managing a team of development professionals desired
