ABOUT THE AMERICAN FRIENDS OF TEL AVIV UNIVERSITY:
American Friends of Tel Aviv University (AFTAU) pursues the advancement of Tel Aviv University (TAU) in the United States; raising money, awareness and influence through international alliances that are vital to the future of this impressive institution.
TAU has American Friends in scores of communities across the United States including over 10,000 alumni from its degree programs and TAU overseas program. It serves as a dynamic bridge between American and Israeli leaders dedicated to excellence in scholarship and to strengthening the State of Israel.
AFTAU is a national non-profit organization headquartered in New York City with offices in Florida, Chicago, Los Angeles and Northern California. Over the past five years, AFTAU has raised an average of just over $30 million annually with a staff of 22. This is an exciting moment for AFTAU to welcome a new CEO to take the helm and drive the organization to reach its goal of over $60 million in the upcoming five years with a commensurate increase in the organizational structure.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be an exceptional, inspirational and innovative leader and fundraiser. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will oversee a growing, nationally-based team and will have a close working relationship with the Vice President of Development and senior administration of TAU.
The key priorities for the role include:
Vision & Campaign Strategy
Set an organizational vision and develop a strategic plan to double the current revenue and impact over the next five years in collaboration with the Board of Directors and staff.
Assure that AFTAU is achieving its short and long-range strategies to raise the support needed to promote TAU’s initiatives and programming.
Develop and implement a media and marketing strategy to build public awareness and promote community interest, involvement and connectedness to TAU.
Board, University, & Community
Partner with and build the Board of Directors of AFTAU to ensure a strong, engaged and active Board.
Serve as a bridge between the United States and TAU, partnering and championing TAU’s Board, administration, development department and other stakeholders.
Increase alumni engagement in the United States with a focus on the next generation of donors.
Culture & Team
Motivate and build the organization under its ambitious goals through a collaborative, high performing culture fostering excellence, teamwork and a shared purpose.
Optimize the organizational structure to support the fundraising efforts and promote creativity, synergy and accountability across a geographically dispersed enterprise.
The successful candidate will be an inspiring, highly accomplished and forward-thinking professional committed to the mission and future of AFTAU. He/she will be a dynamic leader who is tenacious and driven by the opportunity to reimagine, architect and build a thriving and impactful organization.
The successful CEO candidate will have the following:
Significant senior leadership, management and fundraising experience with demonstrated success in growing and building an organization and team;
A proven track record of and passion for fundraising and external relations, including strength in making the ask and closing;
A history of successful engagement, partnering and alliance building with a broad range of constituencies across cultural backgrounds and reporting lines;
Well-honed board management and governance skills;
Demonstrated business acumen with experience overseeing a sizeable operation and plan including accountability measures;
An understanding of current trends in marketing, media, branding and outreach initiatives; and
Knowledge of the Jewish philanthropic community in the United States and an understanding of Israel and its business culture.
A storyteller and natural communicator with charisma and gravitas who thrives as a spokesperson and ambassador;
Strategic, determined and authentic with a relentless pursuit of results and excellence;
A strong manager and listener who believes in the importance of open and ongoing communication, continual learning, mentoring and professional development;
The highest standards of ethics, integrity, respect and humility; and
A passion for and familiarity with Israel, higher education and a commitment to promoting the mission of Tel Aviv University.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus.
COMPENSATION: Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.
TRAVEL: Extensive travel expected, both domestically and to Israel.
